Goat's Peak

Goat's Peak Regional Park

I've enjoyed two visits to Goats Peak Regional Park, immediately south of the City of West Kelowna; once when I learned that, while the lead-in to the singletrack was eminently bikeable, the singletrack trails were definitely not! The second visit found me set for hiking; and this is what the trail is built for.

Goats Peak Regional Park is 52 hectares in size, and is laid out in two sections; 1) a linear two-track, which hugs the lower face of a mountain overlooking Okanagan Lake, and 2) a singletrack trail which ascends this same small summit.

Both are laden with amazing vistas start to finish, along a rocky landscape of grassland and open woodland rising up from the shores of Okanagan Lake.

The park provides hiking trails, many unique ecosystems protecting plants and animals, a conservation area for shore spawning Kokanee, numerous park maps and interactive kiosks.

Motorized vehicles, off-leash dogs, overnight camping, open fires, and smoking are not permitted.

Hours of operation are:

January 1st > February 28th - 6:00am to 6:00pm

March 1st > May 31st - 6:00am to 9:00pm

June 1st > August 31st - 6:00am to 11:00pm

September 1st > October 14th - 6:00am to 9:00pm

October 15th > December 31st - 6:00am to 6:00pm

In the 1800's, early European settlers used nearby lands as a means of transporting goods for the Hudson’s Bay Company. The Gellatly Family grazed their angora goats in the area in the early 1900's, giving rise to the park’s name.

The land for Goats Peak Regional Park was acquired by the Regional District in 2014.The Regional Board approved the Goats Peak Regional Park Management Plan in 2016, which will guide development over the next 20 years.

The goal is to protect the unique ecosystem, while providing passive recreation opportunities and connections to neighboring trails and existing and future parks.

Goats Peak Regional Park is located on Seclusion Bay Rd near the exits to Highway 97C the Okanagan Connector.
